A Texas resident of twelve years, Deohanz is going into his 4th-year as an undergraduate student at the University of North Texas, working towards a Bachelor’s in both Cello Performance as well as Music Education. Previous teachers he has worked with include Phil Cimbalo, Johannes Kleinmann, and Gal Faganel; he currently studies with Horacio Contreras.

He was an active member of the Dallas Asian American Youth Orchestra for four years and is currently part of UNT’s Concert Orchestra under the direction of Clay Couturiaux. Other notable experience includes performances as a member of Millenial Choirs and Orchestras, and other freelance work such as holiday performances for religious institutions, writing and performing set music for the hip-hop group CHROMA, and contemporary music collaborations with UNT composition studies colleagues. In addition, he has multiple years of chamber music experience, including cello ensemble, string trio, and string quartet. Most recently, he attended the 2023 Pacific Region International Summer Music Academy and Festival, where he collaborated with talented musicians across the globe and worked with renowned guest artists and faculty during an intense 2-week-long orchestra-focused program.

Beyond performing, Deohanz is passionate about learning, education, and pedagogy. With UNT String Project and the UNT Summer Strings Day Camp, he has had hands-on experience working with children ranging from beginner to intermediate experience and is always working towards expanding his knowledge of string teaching ideas and strategies to create a more individual learning experience for each of his students. Deohanz is also enrolled in secondary instrument lessons, conducting, and child development classes, and after graduating is looking to become an orchestra director at the middle school or high school along with continuing to develop his playing with freelance gigs and other projects.

Other than music, Deohanz enjoys culinary arts, fashion, listening to a broad genre of music, reading, and hanging out with his cats.
